Is this a prize-winning photograph? (actually, a $25,000 prize-winning photograph)

By the end of October, I’ll know whether this photograph I captured has won the $25,000 first prize in the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photographic competiton.

It’s a big call (me versus the world sort of thing) but I love the emotion in this photograph of a handful of buddhist monks playing in a Myanmar monastery. Each monk’s expression carries an emotion – determination, envy, encouragement and elation – right down to the surprised eyeball of the monk on the right. I love it; it’s one of the few personal photographs I have mounted in my own home.

WA WILDFLOWER SHOOT – PREVIEW

From the wilds of Papua New Guinea to the wildflowers of Western Australia – surely I could be forgiven for expecting a somewhat less demanding assignment.

However, as I have learned, “wildflower photography” has its own challenges.

Here’s a short preview of the shoot I just did in the Western Highlands of Papua New Guinea. It was the second of two up-market wilderness lodges I photographed for Trans Niugini Tours – the country’s premier tour operator.
