IMPRESSIONS OF TIMOR-LESTE

I’m just back from a seven day assignment in Timor-Leste – a fascinating country emerging from a tumultuous recent history. Its a physically appealing country with its high mountain ranges and pristine white beaches. And  its culture is an intriguing blend of Portuguese, Indonesian and Timorese influences – one that’s more reflected in its friendly people than in any man-made features which were largely devastated by the Indonesian occupation. Sadly, the most distinctive traditional landmark I could find to photograph was a replica of two traditional Timorese houses which were built by Rotary.

But, just one hour from Darwin, the country clearly has potential for tourism and, hopefully, a few of the photographs (below) which will be used to promote the destination, will do something to attract visitors to this most interesting part of the world.
