WATER, WINE AND PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK

I’m eating my way around the Daylesford and Mount Macedon region of  Victoria –  about an hours drive north of Melbourne – and what a delightful part of Australia it is. Sprinkled with stylish eateries (I’m sure I’ve put on several kilos since I arrived) and boutique accommodation, its appeal centres around its much celebrated mineral water which people drink and bath in, its wine – quality not quantity it boasts – and the fact that the classic Australian movie Picnic at Hanging Rock was shot here.

Two days into the assignment and the reconnaissance and planning is complete. We set off in earnest today with a full, fun schedule to shoot. I’m enjoying the contrast of the weather and the landscape as winter and the scenery here is a long way from the balmy Pacific and South-east Asia I’m used to (or South Africa for that matter).

And I’m enjoying shooting Australia again. It’s that classic line about appreciating your own country more when you return to it.

Here’s a bushland setting on the top of Mt Macedon I stumbled across just before darkness which we’ll return to later with talent (below).
