I know, I really shouldn’t be posting anything so early but I’ve been talked into playing on Instagram and the prospect of cropping this photograph into a square (which is what it does) was just too much to bare. So here it is on my blog.
What a delight the ladies from Vanuatu where. As I’ve written before, I love the way a couple of them modestly try to conceal the fact they have few teeth as the laughter starts but – if I’m patient or I appear to have finished shooting – it erupts into scenes like this.
Such a pleasure to capture. You can’t help but smile yourself.
So, here I am back in my room, processing photographs after just day one of the Melanesian Arts Festival here in Honiara with nine more days to go. Yahoo. It’s great to be back shooting culture in the South Pacific.
Top Tip: If you’ve missed out this time, plan to be in Vanuatu in four years when it’ll be staged again.
In the meantime, I’ll post a picture a day and a photography tip on Instagram (davidkirklandphotography) in a bid to start building a following of people who are interested in photography and travelling the South Pacific. Otherwise, I’ll post a preview of the assignment in a couple of weeks time.
